All Our Kin seeks an experienced early childhood educator to support All Our Kin coaches in the Bronx, New York to grow and strengthen their coaching practices with family child care educators, leading to higher quality child care and improved outcomes for children. The Mentor Coach/PL Developer will also oversee the creation and implementation of professional learning certified by the State of New York’s Aspire Registry.

Duties & Responsibilities

I. Mentor Coach: The Mentor Coach will support AOK Bronx coaches to grow and strengthen their coaching practices with family child care educators, leading to higher quality, more sustainable care, and improved outcomes for children. The Mentor Coach will build a strong peer support community among the Bronx coaches.

  • Support All Our Kin’s coaching staff to implement All Our Kin’s strengths-focused, relationship-based model and effective practices for working with family child care educators
  • Observe and work side by side with coaches by conducting twice monthly on-site visits per coach, modeling strategies, reflecting and debriefing, and problem solving
  • Offer a menu of individualized supports, such as: planning support for educator visits; additional observation and reflection; role playing; modeling conversations, interactions, and experiences; videotaping and reflection.
  • Engage in deep analysis and lead reflection conversations which guide the coach in connecting to AOK’s values and coaching framework
  • Support coaches in setting and achieving goals and personalizing support based on individual and group needs
  • Support coaches to demonstrate cultural responsiveness in all interactions with staff, educators, children, and families
  • Offer reflective practice and support to coaches
  • Promote business and education coaches’ self-assessment and growth through relationship building, reflection, and coaching
  • Provide ad hoc in-person, video, and phone support and guidance about needs, issues and challenges as they arise
  • Log and write up visits and interactions with coaches
  • With the Chief Learning Officer and other mentor coaches, meet and reflect on the work on an ongoing and frequent basis for continuity and mentor coaching improvement, learning, and program development
  • Participate in the mentor coach community and professional development
  • Facilitate, participate, and observe coaches shadowing each other
  • Collaborate with other mentor coaches, the functional leader, director liaison, the Chief Learning Officer, attend coach meetings, and support in planning and facilitating them as appropriate
  • Attend NY team meetings at least twice per month
  • Attend group reflection meetings to support and observe, as needed or determined by coach and mentor coach
  • Collaborate with the Connecticut ed coach and mentor coach team for continuity and communication

II. Professional Learning Developer: AOK is committed to offering the educators in our community professional learning and development opportunities that are responsive to their needs and curiosities.

Creation of Professional Learning

  • Develop and implement an arc of professional learning programming, for Bronx site(s), which Is guided by feedback from site directors, family child care educators, and staff
  • Meets state requirements in at least one of the nine topic areas, as designated by Aspire
  • Ensures we offer at least one training for each site per month, and can be led by staff or external partners
  • Leverages a mix of professional learning series and single-session trainings
  • Meets educators’ diverse learning needs, including being offered in English and in Spanish
  • Meets educators’ needs of being offered at a variety of times, including evenings and weekends
  • Attend professional learning to ensure quality of content and delivery
  • Develop and facilitate the trainings and/or identify and train staff to facilitate
  • Work with AOK’s Evaluation and Learning team to coordinate the development, administration, and collection of educator evaluations of All Our Kin’s PL
  • Work with Office Associate to order and distribute materials for PLs
  • Work with Office Associate to secure space for trainings (in house or at external partners’ venues)
  • Work with a translator to ensure materials and resources are available in both English and Spanish
  • Secure site staff to support training for both logistical and interpretation needs
  • Collaborate, share work and lessons learned with the Professional Development team
  • Collaborate with and support local Technical Assistance offerings, as needed
  • Design, facilitate, and codify trainings to develop a library of professional learning to be used in the future

Aspire Credential for organization and individual staff members

  • Set up and maintain Aspire credentialing for the organization
  • Build a portfolio of offerings so that AOK can be an Aspire credentialed organization
  • Support team members in building their individual portfolios so they can also become credentialed

Collaboration with other trainers in NYC

  • Identify external trainers (Aspire credentialed) to lead Professional Learning for our educators, as needed, to ensure a full calendar of offerings at sites
  • Develop partnerships with in and outside of our community

Qualifications:

Qualifications / Requirements 

  • Master’s degree in early education preferred
  • At least ten years of hands-on experience as an early childhood educator
  • Experience as an early childhood coach
  • Strong understanding of child and adult learning and development
  • Strong commitment to strengths-based coaching and alignment with All Our Kin’s core values 
  • Experience in coaching, mentoring, and training adults who work in diverse communities
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and a demonstrated ability to prioritize and center relationships
  • A self-starter, entrepreneurial spirit, and highly organized
  • Time management skills
  • Willing to work a flexible schedule, including evening and weekends if required
  • Ability to attend two weeks of training in Connecticut prior to the start of mentor coaching and additional meetings in Connecticut (travel expenses will be reimbursed),
  • Values diversity and demonstrates cultural and linguistic competencies
  • Values an asset-based approach to change and understands the process is lengthy and requires sensitivity, flexibility, respect, and commitment
  • Commitment to the goal of making high-quality early care and education available to all children
  • Experience working with home-based child care educators
  • [Preferred] Bilingual in Spanish and English

    • Considerable experience with strategic planning, systems development, and implementation in non-profit and/or education.
