Description:

Wimpfheimer Nursery School is hiring a Lead Early Childhood Educator for the remainder of the 2023-24 school year, August 15 – June 24, 8:00am-4:00pm daily.

As a Lead Teacher, you will develop, implement, and evaluate the classroom curriculum and be responsible for providing a high quality educational program that reflects the goals of our laboratory nursery school for children ages 2-5. Lead teachers will exhibit excellent written and oral communication skills and collaborate with families, colleagues, therapists and specialists, as well as support students and interns. Lead teachers must have knowledge applying a constructivist approach to learning with experience in play based education and emergent curriculum design.

Lead teachers plan and implement daily curriculum according to developmentally appropriate practices, have a well articulated philosophy regarding child social-emotional development, discipline, and guidance and understand the principles of responsive caregiving. Lead teachers meet with parents regularly, assess and document child progress, organize and arrange classroom environment and materials with care, manage and lead reflective team meetings, mentor and supervise others, and support a positive team teaching approach.

Qualifications:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education or related field
  • Experience managing a teaching team
  • Experience with social coaching and conflict resolution for young children
  • Experience leading a developmentally appropriate classroom
  • Experience with child assessment and parent-teacher conferences
  • Experience setting up a classroom, arranging materials, caring for the environment
  • A willingness to grow and increase knowledge in the field and seek innovative approaches
  • Cheerful, nurturing, positive, team player with a collaborative work ethic
  • Participate and help plan school events such as parent night and teacher reflections
  • Exhibit joy in working with children and families


PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

This position requires the candidate to be able to care for children’s physical needs on a consistent basis. Candidates must be able to interact with children on their level; frequent bending, squatting and playing on the floor is expected. Candidate must be able to lift 30 pounds. Candidate must remain alert and productive. The ideal candidate will be comfortable teaching outside in all seasons and all weather.
